2009/2010 Adventure Slide Show Series Dates (scroll to bottom for flier)

8th annual Lake Tahoe Adventure Slide Show Series sponsored by your friends at The BackCountry

We enjoy strong support and help from our friends at Bar One, who generously donate the venue. We also thank Dave Nettle for helping to organize and promote this event, as well as deliver some of the most entertaining and inspriring slide shows you'll ever see.

This event is held every wednsday night at Bar One, in the Olympic Plaza at Squaw Valley. Squaw Valley is 9 miles south of Truckee, and 5 miles north of Tahoe City. This large, comfortable room is on the second floor right next to the bar Zenbu. The olympic Plaza is not part of the "Village" in the parking lot, but rather the older building closest to the snow. Follow the people in the parking lot basically, this is where they are going!

The 09/10 season offers 10 incredible shows, from some seroiusly adventurous people anywhere. These folks are extremely generous giving us their time, sometimes travelling to Tahoe from far away. They want to spread that good mountain vibe, and get us all stoked on life. Many of these shows are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to meet and hear from incredible mountain loving athletes and travellers. Many presenters are locals you'll hopefully enjoy meeting too!

Shows start right at 7pm and usually last one hour. Arrive early for a seat. There is comfortable seating for about 150, and pretty good standing room for another 100. Most shows fill the room completely by 7:10 and the show has started. Every wed from Dec 9th to Feb 10th. Brought to you by your local outdoor gear shop, The Back Country!

December 9 -Dave Nettle A return to the Alps: The Matterhorn, The Eiger and Mont Blanc
Join dave for a fast paced triple play of fun and adventure on three of Europe's most famous peaks by way of their lesser known routes. The evening will wrap up with a short blast of back country ski images to kick off another great season.

December 16 -Kip Garre Alaskan Ski Extreme: A ski descent of Mt Foraker
Just southwest of Denali rises the sixth highest peak in North America: 17,400' Mt. Foraker, known for it's consistently high technical difficulties and exceptionally low summit success rate. In May 2009, Kip, along with Andrew McLean, Courtney Phillips and Fred Marmsater, successfully skied the peak from the summit in what they described as, "a stroke of good weather, bold mountaineering and plain old good luck".

December 23 -John Morrison Chasing Pow - Ski Mountaineering in North America
From the High Sierra and the Tetons to the Alaska Range, join Squaw Valley local John Morrison for tales and images of ski mountaineering on some of North America's greatest ski peaks. Following a grand plan hatched over beers, John and Tahoe local Glen Poulsen set out for an adventure that ultimately led to a 14,000 foot descent from the summit of Denali. Along the way ski descents of Sierra peaks, Cascade volcanoes, and the Grand Teton helped prepare the two for their visit to the Alaska Range.

December 30 -Dave Vuono Vermont goes Mediterranean: Deep water soloing in Mallorca
Enjoy a breath of fresh ocean air and Spanish gusto from east coast climber, world traveler and acclaimed photographer Dave Vuono. Traveling all the way to Squaw Valley from Burlington Vermont, Dave will kick the evening off with images of climbing in Vermont (yes it actually does exist and it is good!) then he'll launch his short film about a recent trip to Mallorca Spain where he sampled some deep water soloing.

January 6 -Mike Schwartz
A fun, informative, and inspiring slide show on the better ski touring adventures in our own backyard. Mike takes plenty of pictures of his exploits up high in the Sierras and beyond. The emphasis of this show is non technical ski mountaineering objectives, some classic and some just winging it. Stuff most of you can do with just a little beta and a lot of enthusiasm.

January 13 -Todd Offenbacher Scratching the Void: A humorous look at the vertical world
In the mountaineering world you can always count on uncertainty and full value. The same can be said of Tahoe local climber, adventurer and host of RSN TV Todd Offenbacher, who will, in his unique and humorous way, attempt to explain alpine mysteries such as how to get the rope to the top of an unclimbed peak, how to go #2 in a vertical world and the amazing power of laughter and a smile in the mountains. This promises to be a great evening to enjoy a cocktail and hire a babysitter!

January 20 -nicole,karen, susie, sarah, katie, lissa....?! Girls of the Northern Sierra: Four seasons of Fun
Anything can happen (and usually does) when this group of fun loving climbing and skiing gals get together and they have found the perfect blend of friendship, chasing fun and seeking challenge from back country powder skiing and rock climbing in the Sierra back country to places around the world. This will be a unique evening of tag teaming a collection of captivating stories, beautiful images and hot scoops where, like many great adventures, the show will unfold as it it goes along.

January 27 -Shannon Carroll White Water Kayaking: The Middle Fork of the Kings Expedition 2009
Kayakers come from all over the world to run the impressive rivers of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. The Middle Fork of the Kings River is a 6 day class V run that starts with a grueling 12 mile hike over the crest of the Sierra at Bishop Pass. What follows is 35 miles of intense white water, scouting, portaging, rescue, boat repair, waterfalls and whatever else mother nature can throw at you. The amazing scenery and steep rapids lend to a perfect setting for an incredible trip and is shared with image and story.

February 3 -Peter Croft The Sierra Nevada: Seeking the heart and soul of climbing
We are pleased to welcome Peter Croft back to Tahoe for an all new presentation that highlights the reasons why he first came to the "Range of Light" and how this turned into a long term climbing love affair with high granite peaks and the diverse climbing along the eastern Sierra. His show will feature a short film about his first ascent of "Solar Flare" 5.12 on the Incredible Hulk with celebrated alpinist Conrad Anker a couple of years ago.

February 10 -Dave Nettle Magic Mushroom: A Yosemite Big Wall Experience
Since being established in 1972 at the height of the Yosemite big wall era, this route has retained a reputation for it’s incredible exposure and complicated technical climbing through the wild overhangs of El Capitan's Shield headwall. Experience the humor and challenge of Dave Nettle and Chad Shearer’s adventure with images and stories of 4 days and nights lashed to the "big stone" in one of the most amazing places on earth.
