Here's a popular Lake Tahoe/Truckee area day hike or trail run, of about 15 miles. Go in either direction. Add some miles on either end with plenty of trailhead access locations for the PCT around here.

here's the view north when you get onto the PCT, after a really nice climb through Shirley Canyon, above the Squaw Valley Lodge Parking Lot.

Tinker's Knob seen here as the high peaklet on the Pacific Crest. Anderson Peak is beyond that to the north.
